Acceptance of terms

By downloading or using Riverfly Toolbox (“the app”), you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.

Using the app

Riverfly Toolbox does not require you to create an account. You’re responsible for the accuracy of the survey data you record and for how you use the monitoring scores the app generates. The app is intended to support riverfly monitoring survey work and should be used in line with the training and guidance provided by your local monitoring scheme.

Your content

All survey data and any other content you record in the app is stored locally on your device and remains entirely yours. Because this data is never transmitted to us, we need no license to store, sync, or display it — you are solely responsible for backing it up and keeping it safe.

Intellectual property

The app’s design, code, and branding are owned by James Mowatt and may not be copied or redistributed without permission.

Disclaimers

The app is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. Monitoring scores and other calculations are provided as a guide to support your fieldwork and should not be the sole basis for water-quality decisions or reported to a monitoring scheme without your own review.

Safety

Riverfly monitoring involves entering and working near rivers, which can be dangerous, including risks of slipping, drowning, cold water shock, and other injury. You must follow the safety guidance issued by the Riverfly Partnership (or your local monitoring scheme) at all times, including any guidance on safe access, water levels, and working in pairs. Do not handle or look at your phone while in or near the water — set up or review the app on the bank, at a safe distance from the water’s edge, before and after wading in.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from your use of the app, including loss of data stored locally on your device. We accept no liability for injury, death, or damage to belongings (including your phone) arising from or connected with your use of the app or your participation in riverfly monitoring activities.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
